FOCUS ON CHILDREN: Makululu Compound, Kabwe, Zambia.

OVERVIEW
Focus On Children is a programme aimed at helping children get back to school. The target children are between the ages of 8-13 years; born from adolescent girls, living with their grandparents. The program was initiated in the year 2024. The programme which started with five children has grown to eleven beneficiaries.
We observed with concern that most children who are born from adolescent girls in typical compounds such as Makululu do not have access to holistic support programmes to nurture their children spiritually, emotionally and psychologically as they receive child support. It is with this backdrop that Focus On Children was introduced as part of our mission’s work.

COUNSELLING
In order for us to prepare the children to transition from the community to class, we provide counseling through which we help children become ready psychologically and emotionally for the class environment.Ms

BIBLE CLASS
As a Faith Based Organization (FBO) we value spiritual transformation. We endeavor to understand the spiritual needs of the children and strive to give them Bible lessons that shape their morals. This is the most frequent activity that pivots our programme.

EDUCATION SUPPORT
After assessing the child and determining that he or she is ready to adapt in a school and class environment, we offer education support by providing school necessities such as uniforms, shoes, bags, exercise books and pencils to the beneficiary. We do this with the financial support of programme partners; mostly individuals and families.

SPECIAL NEEDS
We endeavor to be inclusive in our work by considering children with special needs. We are proud to have Ms. Muvombo Moono who is a Special Needs Educationist on the team. She is currently serving as a lecturer at Kwame Nkrumah University, School of Education. To uphold our non-descriminative policy, we welcome every child and do everything possible to provide an equitable service.

COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION
Focus On Children is part of our strategy to transform communities. Through this initiative we support families to become self-sustainable. We envision families that consist of members who are academically empowered and spiritually healthy to contribute positively to the economic growth of their families. We believe that this cannot be achieved without education.
